On Wings of an Avalanche was a breath of fresh air for me. I quickly got wrapped into the characters in this book and felt like I was walking in their shoes. My imagination ran wild and let me see through Chips eyes. I felt the pain and pressure Chip faced as he struggled through the trials of his injuries and captivity as he fought to obtain freedom. One thing I loved in particular about this novel is that the story of Dr. Madison Cote and Chip are happening side by side. With each chapter you are certain their paths are about to cross as each individuals story draws closer. This book is brilliantly written and I cannot wait for C.D. Gill to put out another book. It is not often that a book has me living and breathing the characters. It was incredibly refreshing to find a book that provided such a tremendous amount of life and energy. This is the book you need to read by the pool this summer, or curl up in front of a fire and read in the fall. Read it. Love it. Share it!

The plot gripped me from the outset. For the few days it took me to read this book I was completely immersed in a world that I wasn’t familiar with up until that point. As a busy homeschooling mom I don’t have time to leisurely read but I lost a lot of sleep trying to finish this book! As a lover of literature, I found C.D. Gill’s storytelling gripping. I didn’t find myself skipping over boring parts because every paragraph had interest and moved the story forward. When I finished the book I found myself researching more about Mali and the sad world of drug trafficking because this book opened a new world to me.

Dr. Madison Cote is one brave, compassionate, and independent lady! She is a rockstar in her profession and literally changing and saving countless lives every day in rural Mali. Chip Chapman falls down a mountain and lands in the middle of a hot mess in Africa! His determination and compassion keep him moving forward and making the best of an unthinkable situation.
Although there are only two main characters listed in the book blurb, the author’s presentation of this story from multiple viewpoints, including complex secondary characters, creates an immersive and engaging reading experience. Once you pick this book up, you won’t want to put it down and I highly recommend it!
