Is it possible that we’re finally creeping up on the end of winter? My daffodils certainly think so with their optimistic greenery pushing through the cold dirt and the robins have come back sooner than usual to gift us with their happy songs. I know you’re as ready for that warm sunshine as I am.

I wanted to give you a quick story and life update and then tell you about my Valentine’s Day sale. If you’re just here for the sale, skip down to the bottom for the code (no judgment here). [Sale no longer offered. Subscribe to newsletter to get sales info.]

In book 2, Gia and Xander are dealing with some new, very real challenges that are threatening to pull their relationship apart. Long distance being one of them which is something I’m intimately familiar with. One of the very fun things about writing fiction is how much an author puts of themselves into the book which leaves readers wondering which parts are fiction and which parts are true to the author’s experience. And I am not afraid to say, I strongly identify with Gia’s intense restlessness. You might, too.

Winter, sickness, travel restrictions, working to stay afloat have got us all absolutely chomping at the bit to break free, go somewhere, gasp for fresh air after being submerged for months. And Gia, who runs from her problems rather than staying to fight, is learning about just how much strength it takes to stay when all she wants is to leave.

My four year old recently heard (for the first time) T. Swift’s song “All You Had to Do Was Stay” that I may or may not have been listening to in the car on my way to pick her up from school and will now ask to listen to “Stay!” sung in a high-pitch. Then, we dance around the kitchen shrieking “STAY!” at varying intervals during the song. But it reminds me a lot of Gia’s tough inner struggle and how I have to fight every day to stay present, to stay within the four walls of my house and teach, play, and dispense food on a never-ending basis. (For real, why is making dinner every night such a huge drain?)

Will she be who she’s always been and give up and run to preserve her sanity? Or will she stay and fight to keep everything she loves, knowing it will change the trajectory of her life?
